In-Character Information
Name: Mikapii Game/Series: Pokemon (Jigglypuff) Teacher/Student/Other: Student Canon Point: Following original G/S/C canon, Mikapii is taken from after the Rockets have left Goldenrod City. He never noticed their presence, but would probably be able to recall a time when he wasn't allowed to go outside for a few weeks. Age: 18 Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: University Freshman Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm plz
Backstory: Mikapii was born into a well-off family in Goldenrod City, owned by an older couple and their daughter, with a Wigglytuff Mother and an Azumarill father. Raised in an urban setting, he often spent his afternoons daydreaming about becoming a world-famous pop-singer, just like the ones on tv. He became entranced by their beautiful voices, flashy outfits, and extravagent lifestyles. However, when he expressed such an interest to his father, he was very strictly told never to sing around others. Confused, but unwilling to disobey, he practiced his singing alone and never let anyone hear his melodious voice.
Even though he had such a passion for singing, never being able to express that passion around others caused Mikapii to spend much of his free time by himself. On one hand, this has causes him to become shy in situations involving large groups of people. On the other hand, once he feels comfortable, he still isn't really sure how he should act. Since most of his knowledge on interpersonal interaction comes from watching the highly dramatized lives of celebrities, he often acts a bit strange around others (this relates to the way he acts "extreme" around people, which usually makes him seem like much more of a lady than he really is~).
Determined to live his life by his own standards, he started tying his tuft of pink hair with bows and ribbons, longing to dress just as beautifully as all the women he saw on television. For him, they weren't men and women; they were all muscians and artists. And he wanted to be just like them! Although his father wanted to discourage this behavior, his mother supported it, even going so far as to find funds for his sparkly accessories.
One day, he saw a poster advertising a talent-search in Goldenrod for the next big hit: Goldenrod Idol! Determined to make it to fame, Mikapii practiced more than ever until he'd finally mastered the Sing technique. Unfortunately, the auditions were going to be aired over the radio, and since the actual competition was for humans only, Mikapii snuck into the radio station on the day of the contest. After the final contestant sang their part, Mikapii dove in the way and claimed the microphone, singing with all his heart and soul...!
And everyone fell asleep. The contestants, the judges, the people working in the studio, people listening to the broadcast in the street, people listening in their homes... and, just his luck, the only one who didn't fall asleep in his house? His father, of course! Poor Mikapii was lectured well into the night about how his singing was harmful and dangerous and he needed to forget his impossible dreams about becoming a pop-singer. Mikapii was so upset! How could he be blamed for everyone else falling asleep like that!? That night, still angry and hurt that his talents had gone unnoticed, Mikapii sung a quick lullaby and knocked out his father, drawing a fake moustache and monocle on his face with a permanent marker in revenge.
Shortly after this incident, he was sent off to Smash Academy, where he spent nearly a year before being transfered to the Pokemon Military Academy near Goldenrod to keep him closer to home. After six agonizing months there, he managed to convince his father to allow him to go back to Smash, on the condition that when he graduated, he would go on to become a Pokemon any trainer would be proud to have as part of their team. Relutantly, Mikapii agreed.
However, it was only a few short months after he returned that Mikapii was once more to be transfered somewhere else against his will... only this time, it wasn't because of his father, but because the daughter of the couple they lived, Lisa, with was to be starting off on her very own pokemon journey! And as the oldest of his siblings, Mikapii was the one chosen to accompany her. Although at first Mikapii was stubbornly against the idea, over time he began to bond more with her on the level a pokemon and a trainer should. In the year and a half he spent on his journey with Lisa, he finally began to realize what it meant to be a pokemon...!
But even though Mikapii had been alongside his new trainer every step of the way as they journyed throughout Johto, he still never became much of a fighter. After all, in spite of what Mikapii's father would like to believe, Lisa knew Mikapii wasn't fond of fighting, and instead kept him around more as a companion than as a partner for battling. And so, with her journey in Johto coming to an end, Lisa gave Mikapii two choices: follow her to Kanto and risk never reaching his own true potential, or return to the one place where he had finally been able to be the puff he always wanted to be.
It was a more difficult decision to make than he thought it would be... but in the end, Mikapii chose to return to Smash Academy once more.
Personality: Jigglypuff is a pokemon well-known for its lovely, melodious voice... unfortunately, that is really something that can't be verified considering a mere peep of a Jigglypuff's song results in weariness and, eventually, sleep. This is something that has frustrated Mikapii for years. As a matter of fact, he remains in denial over the fact that his singing causes people to fall asleep. He's convinced himself that the true problem wasn't his voice, but rather, what he chose to sing. His songs were so boring that people fell asleep!
Furthermore, to say that Mikapii is flamboyant would be an understatement. With his short stature and love of crossdressing, most people fail to recognize the pokemon's true gender at first glance, especially in gijinka form. And for many others, it takes more than just a glance to learn that Mikapii is, in fact, male. Mikapii himself is no help, prefering to maintain a feminine appearance and rarely correcting people who assume he is a girl. It isn't that he wishes he were the opposite gender. He simply enjoys to wears frilly dresses and bows in his hair because he wants to, rather than forming to the idea of how a boy should appear. His love for these outfits most likely stems from his adoration of pop-stars, who are often known for wearing similar flashy outfits during performances.
Mikapii is known for putting on an act when it comes to his personality. He'll overdo his "performance" as a female, sometimes saying things just for the sake of adding to the gender confusion. This includes random acts of adorable and as well as having a very feminine demeanor. While on one hand this allows Mikapii to stand out, on the other it also allows him to push people away and keep them from truly getting to know him. He has trouble with personal relationships, usually due to the fact that many people have trouble accepting him for his androgynous gender and try to insist he decide whether to act as a boy or girl. Mikapii's inability to conform to a uniform gender identity mirrors his confusion in regards to his species as well. There are no Pokemon singing idols, after all!
But underneath the act and all those layers of frills and lace, there's another side of Mikapii that only came to the surface after his previous two stays at Smash Academy, starting after the first time he was forced to leave. He lost all his friends and wasn't even allowed to say goodbye; he became convinced they all either hated him for it or forgot about him. It probably didn't help that his father had been telling him this as they left! That aside, going from somewhere as wonderful as Smash Academy only to be transferred into a glorified Pokemon Military School only further worked to wear down the pink puff. He had to remain as a Pokemon, sleep at night in a Pokeball, and wear absolutely no accessories. Not even in his hair. Training sessions were intense and, for a Pokemon who has no desire to fight in the first place, downright brutal. This left him feeling rather confused, both in regards to his species and his identity. If this was how a Pokemon lived, maybe he didn't want to be a Pokemon!
This newfound part of his personality began to change after he was once more pulled from Smash Academy and instead sent out on a Pokemon Journey with Lisa, the daughter of the couple who raised him. Although he never truly took part in battles in the way a pokemon traditionally should, he still spent the greater part of that year and a half living only as a pokemon and bonding with his new trainer. In that time, he grew to accept himself for what he was, realizing that just because he's a pokemon doesn't mean he can't still live his life the way he wants. After all, he and Lisa were just as close as Lisa was to her human friends, if not more so, even if they couldn't always understand each other.
It's for that reason that Mikapii is actually conflicted as to whether he should go on to travel with Lisa throughout Kanto, or return to Smash Academy, where he has the option of becoming human and pursuing his dreams. Ultimately, he realizes that even if he can change his shape to look more human, he'll still always be a pokemon at heart. And for that reason, he decides to pursue his own dreams and returns to Smash Academy to be reunite with the friends he left behind.
Anything Else?:
In regards to what I mentioned in his drop post back on LJ, since none of that ever would have come up ICly, I'm going to assume it's safe to retcon. As amazing as Mikapii going off to the Kanto-equivalent of Hollywood would be, it makes his history too weird to work with okay okay.
He's named after his Japanese voice actor, Mika Kanai, who is often refered to by fans as "Mikapii".
In non-Gijinka form, he wears ridiculously large bows and flowers in his hair. He prefers his frilly dresses in Gijinka though.
He may have come to terms with the fact that his singing puts people to sleep, but he'll still scribble all over someone's face if they fall asleep when he sings.
In-Character 1st person sample: Uhm. Hi everyone! This is Mikapii! ♪~ It's gotta be kind of weird to hear my voice after so long, huh? Time really flies when you're having fun! Uhm. At least, I hope you guys have been having fun. I haven't really heard from anyone. So. I wouldn't know.
[AWKWARD PAUSE.]
Oh! But! I know I haven't been very good at keeping in touch either! So... so it's not anyone's fault at all, okay? So starting now, we'll just have to make up for all the time I wasn't here! I mean, it's been like forever, right? ...does anyone here still remember me?
In-Character 3rd person sample: How long had it been since Mikapii last set foot on this familiar ground... a year? Almost two? He can still remember the last time he left, with his head bowed so deeply he may as well have been dragging it across the ground. It had never quite been on his own terms whenever he was froced to leave this place, after all. But now, here he was.
In all that time away, he never once tried to become human again. As far as he was concerned, that was a privilege saved only for the Academy. What right did he, a pokemon, have to take the form of a human being? When he asked himself that very question the day he left, none was the answer he ultimately decided upon.
But things were different now. He was different now. Sure, on the outside not much about him has changed, but in his heart be knows just how much he's grown in his time away. He understood now: he was a pokemon, and he was proud. No one could take that away from him.
...that is, or so he hopes. Timid fingers grasp the handle of his suitcase as he looks up at the building. He changed before he even made it inside, the transformation technique coming back to him so quickly it really seemed as though he had never left. Would it really be all right to stay here, living the life of a walking contradiction who looked and acted human but insisted they were still a pokemon deep down? Maybe he shouldn't have come? Maybe this was a mistake? Maybe--
"Well, hurry up! Or you'll be late for your first class!" From behind, a hand juts out and gives Mikapii a small shove. He gasps and whirls around, only to see that his trainer, Lisa, still hadn't left.
This is the first time she's seen him as a human. Suddenly feeling shy, his face grows red, and he looks down at the ground. Lisa simply laughs.
"Come on, don't be like that!" She reaches over and ruffles his hair, "This is what you wanted! Now go for it, before I start thinking you just wanted to get away from me."
"Th-that's not it at--" Mikapii starts to protest, but before he can get another word out, a finger is placed over his lips.
"...heh. Your voice is really cute, Mikapii!" With a grin, Lisa laughs again. He was going to miss that laugh. "Now go on and make me proud, okay? And don't forget to write me so I know how you're doing!"
As she pulls her hand away and starts to step back, Mikapii does the same. He grasps his suitcase and whirls back, throwing a bright smile over his shoulder. "I will!"
And with a short parting wave, Lisa stands to watch as Mikapii disappears into the nearby building, feeling confident now that he'd made the right choice.
